You certainly have a bone to pick with the Realtor and your landlord about the intrusions, but you should speak to an attorney about potentially breaking a lease. As a renter, your rights are well-protected here in Chicago, but it can be a pretty complicated situation. I would speak first to your landlord about this Realtor who clearly doesn't respect your privacy... ... more

Are you looking to buy or rent? Sounds like you both make decent income and it shouldn't be a problem finding a place to live. Not sure what the market is like in your area, but here in Colorado it's actually cheaper to buy than it is to rent.

Talk to a local lender or mortgage broker to get prequalified. Even if you're self employed, you can qualify if you have good supporting documentation of your income (i.e. tax returns).

Good luck!

Andy Ogorzaly answered:
First of all, 1 bedrooms are very difficult to find in UK Village, Wicker/Buck because the make up of the neighborhood is more single family homes and 2-3 flats. And the 2-3 flats are usually 2 bedrooms. With those amenities expect to pay $1400 min for UK Village and probably $1600 min for Wicker/Buck.

Lincoln Park has higher density along the lakefront, so 1 bedrooms are more common. However, many of the buildings are older, so they probably won't have laundry in unit. But if you did, it would probably be around $1400 min because LP is VERY desirable. 2 Beds in LP with those amenities are probably over $2000/mo.

Garage parking in LP is usually an extra $150/mo. Wicker/Buck is probably an extra $100/mo. Sometimes it is included.
