It is hard to tell you specifically what building costs are, since they vary so much, depending on style, siding, interior finishes, etc. Have you spoken with any builders? I would be happy to discuss options with you. there are so many bargains right now for existing homes, that new construction is going to have a hard time competing from a price perspective. 10 acres on Santa Rosa Sound is a huge amount of land --is this in Fort Walton Beach? Would love to talk to you about what you want to do.

Yes, property meeting this criteria can be found. It might take some negotiation and you may find some of these properties may be located in neighborhoods having some flood risk. I'll be glad to send you the properties that we have in MLS meeting your criteria so you can see them for yourself! Just send me your email address (mine is and I'll get that information to you.

Take care and hope to hear from you soon!

I am an agent here in FWB and I am starting to see the market pick up a bit in this area. It depends on pricing , location, and presence of the property. I would be happy to assist you in evaluating your home for price and marketability. If you are willing to price the property according to other home sales and market it properly then you will get traffic in the home to get it sold. There is a large inventory available so you want your home to be show ready and available to be seen at a short notice. Please feel free to contact me if I can assist you in evaluating your home in this market. 850-803-3233 David ... more

Hi Marsha:

I know it is difficult to figure out where you might want to live when you haven't visited the area. I work with many people relocating to the area and find that many people who work at Eglin AFB will live in Crestview. It is an easy commute to the base and there are plenty of newly constructed homes to choose from. I would also check out Niceville. Niceville is very popular with it's close proximity to the beach and the base.

Okaloosa County has some of the best schools in the state of Florida. I'm sure you would be happy if you have school aged children. Both Niceville and Crestview are in the Okaloosa County school district.

Feel free to look on my website at for homes in Crestview and Niceville or contact me directly, I would be glad to help your husband when he comes to town.

All the best,

Judy Griffin
