Hi Trudy.
With HAFA there can be some negotiating. If you can support your offer with market information you might be able to get the short sale price reapproved. I currently have a HAFA short sale in Counter Offer situation with Bank of America and they have come down from the original asking price that was approved.
The key to buying a short sale is to offer market price. If the approved price was higher than market, there is a chance you will get it approved. It is at or below market, they may reject the offer.
Best of luck to you.
Regards,
Lisa Jones

I would allow for an hour, but it depends on when you leave. If you leave by 7am it might only be 45 minutes. I cover some of those commuting times/issues in my bristow video at link below. You would probably want to take 29 east instead of 66 though for a better route. The manassas bottleneck is bad on 66 at 234. ... more

Melissa Barkalow answered:
Hi Carrie

As the spring rolls around typically there will be more inventory on the market, so March, April and into May is when typically the most homes are on the market in the area. Five days could be enough time if you and your Realtor do some homework before time to really lay out your needs in the house and then when you are in town get out and see as much as possible. I have had clients find the house on the first day, it really varies. I would talk to a lender to get pre-qualified, so you know what price range to be looking for and think about what you want in your home (bedrooms, baths, kitchen style, neighborhood, etc). The Washingtonian has run some good articles about schools in the area and occasionally the Washington Post has some articles as well.

Please let me know if I can be of any more assistance or if you have any further questions.

Thanks
Melissa Barkalow
