Have you been seeking pre-approval from local lenders? You need a realtor you can trust and referral to a local lender that a trusted Realtor has worked with for a long time. I believe with you being in the same industry that should help. I would suggest not going through the big banks either. Let me know if I can help. A Realtor would NEVER ask you to wire money. If you see a posting; try to google the address - you may then find the LEGITIMATE Realtor and ask if the home is for sale or rent and how much it is. ... more

There are many great areas that are close to Georgetown with access to transportation so it's really just a matter of personal preference and affordability. Generally, the closer to Georgetown, the more expensive but that's not entirely the case. Some of my favorite areas are Dupont, West End, Foggy Bottom, and Kalorama if you want to stay in DC within walking distance of Georgetown and be close to a Metro station. Sorry to hear you have to move but a lot apartments are offering some various nice amenities to make life a little easier.

typically, one of the biggest challenges is finding enough space for all your furniture and personal items. This may be a good time to clean out your closet so to speak and get rid of some those old items we tend to hold on to but do not need.

REALTORS are forbidden to give out certain types of information, particularly information about things such as crimes and criminal activities. It violates our code of ethics, since crime is a random occurrence, and can happen anywhere, at anytime.

But, we are not forbidden to tell you where you can find out this information on your own. DC maintains a very good website, the Metropolitan Police Department Crime Map. It allows you to enter an address and time span, and look at the reported crimes in an area, over various periods of time. Go to: and take a look. Compare multiple areas to get a feeling for location, comapring an area you are familiar with, to an area you are not.

As to shopping, and transportation, a good resource is It lists all stores and even gives a score for an area as to its 'walkability'.
