Issues of crime and safety are often best directed to the local police department or county sheriff's department. They have access to the most current and accurate information and are generally willing to be supportive.

Best wishes,

We'll assume you want to know about the value of properties and quality of life at Cambridge and Ridge Ave? The area is the furthest Northern boarder of The Art Museum Area which means it is at "the fringe" as we like to call it. Other Neighborhoods that are "fringe" neighborhoods are Old Kensington (19122) which is further East and Brewery Town (19121) which is just over Girard Avenue on the North side.

The area at Cambridge and Ridge is super close to Girard Ave which is heavily traveled by the Girard Avenue El traffic and other regular car traffic on Ridge. The location is is a development stage and "up and coming" as they say. Landmarks such as the area churches, the Girard Prison and Girard College give this area a Historic value as well.

There is a significant amount of restoration going on between Fairmount Ave and Girard, along Ridge Ave and further West. Many homes have been rehabbed and restored and there has been a sprouting of condo conversions throughout the area.

I (Stephanie) have lived at Corinthian and Girard and at 19th and Girard for a few years and I was quite fond of the area. It was easy access to center city and I easily found local jaunts to call my own including Life Sport Gym, numerous restaurants and grocery shops, North Star for live music, and so much more.

Hi Billy,

I live in the 19111 section of Northeast Philadelphia, and I love the neighborhood and my neighbors. Castor Gardens is a good area as well. Philadelphia is a block by block city, no one block is the same. Your personal preview of the neighborhood of course is key.

Please visit my site, and check out some listings when you get a chance.

My wife and I purchased a home in East Mount Airy 3.5 years ago. We are near Germantown and the Infusion coffee shop--on the east side. We've never had problems--and, we have young kids. East Mount Airy is a very diverse community with lots of middle-class WORKING families. Of course, there are some problem teenagers--but teenagers are difficult to escape--period. I would advise you to spend time walking around during the day and early evenings in the neighborhood to get a feel for it. Visit the shops and restaurants along Germantown between Mt. Pleasant and Mt. Airy. East Mt. Airy has many beautiful blocks and homes and loads of potential. And, home prices tend to be significantly less than on the west side. FYI, you can check out crime stats on UPenns website--great mapping feature. ... more

The best way to find out if an area is a crime free area is to check with the local police. Find the crime records and see where crimes are happening. Go to the area on a weekend and speak with the residents of the community, the store owners, etc. . Take a trip there in the late evening and see what the atmosphere is like. ... more
