Laws prevent agents from recommending or "steering" buyers to or from one area over another. Since agents can't make suggestions, my recommendation would be to visit the area, meet some locals and get impressions from them. Before you buy a specific home, I also recommend you meet your neighbors. The Elmwood Strip is a wonderful village. There are plenty of shops and cafes all within walking distance of affordable housing. Whether you choose to rent or buy in the Elmwood area there are many beautiful buildings to choose from. It is a very friendly neighborhood environment. The community pulls together to keep the area thriving and desirable. I used to live on Lafayette just west of Elmwood and I miss it very much. ... more

I don't know if anyone can anwser this question. It's all a matter of opinion, and what are you comparing it too. There are people that make a ton of money and there are some that don't make as much as they should. Thats probably the same in any city. There are great sites, restuarants, museums, shopping and more. According to the news we are one of the most affordable places to live and buy a home in the US, and that's based on Income not just the price of homes. I love living in a suburb of Buffalo. I don't know if this helps at all, but it's the way I see it. ... more
