Hi Miguel, Those amounts are the totals due yearly. In the city of Syracuse you would pay quarterly so you could divide those totals to get an approximate amount due each quarter. You may also be able to apply for basic star exemption, senior star exemption or vet exemptions. At the time of close you would have to pay back the seller for any amount that they had prepaid into the tax year. Depending on your mortgage you may also have to prepay approximately ten months of taxes to hold in escrow. Thanks, Cindy cnagle@realtyusa.com ... more

Fair Housing Laws prevent an agent from answering, it is considered steering--make the time and visit the area, look at neighborhoods that meet your commuting time--drive around more than once and at different times of day, get a sense of belonging--look at everthing that is important to you, chat with locals, etc. As far as safety concerns--your best source of information is the local police department--visit/call, ask all your questions and hear all there is to hear firsthand--then go from there. ... more

I am not a realtor, but am familiar with up-state NY towns. My gut reaction would be to find something near one of the universities, especially in Syracure and Rochester, which are private, because students often pay a premium for off-campus housing. ... more

Most internet sites charge a monthly or yearly fee. At least all the good ones! So the cost is still there for advertising and marketing.

I would contact the listing agent to confirm the status. The house may just be "under contract" and not actually sold. If that is the case and you are interested in the home as the agent if the seller will consider a back up contract. then if the first sale falls through you would be in position to be the primary contract. ... more

Hi Brian,

Many real estate professionals work with customers for a period of years prior to making a sale...agents understand there are very different levels of motivation from one buyer to another.

Our recommendation is to begin your search process by collecting information via the internet and attending open houses. Be up front with the agents you come in contact with making them aware of your timeline. Many buyer find the agent that they decide to work with through attending open houses.

Where can I get the best bang for my buck? The City of Syracuse has pockets of great neighborhoods such as Strathmore, Eastwood and Valley area.

Would like to know estimated costs for home insurance? You should contact two local insurance agents because home owner insurance can be different then land lord policies.

Accurate property taxes? Should always be checked through City Hall 315-448-2489 ask for property tax department. Two homes side by side with the same bedrooms, baths and SQ/ft
could have taxes different by more then a $1,000. That’s just the way our city handles taxes.
