When it comes to any safety/crime related issues, it's always best to contact the local police department with all your questions, hear all there is to hear firsthand. If unfamiliar with the area(s) do revisit more than once and at different times of day, possibly chat with locals/neighbors. Real estate professionals are prohibited from steering, enticing a buyer to purchase/rent, or not, in specific neighborhoods.

If it is a subpoena than you must go. However, from your question I'm not really sure what the reason for the notice is. Your best bet is to contact a lawyer.

Felipe,
Easily. The hard part will be finding the home you want to buy. This could happen the first time you go out shopping or could take a while if your needs are very specific or you are unrealistic in your expectations.
Once you place your offer most FHA loans will easily close in 60 days or less. In my area 30-45 days are adequate, but things may vary from State to State.
I must let you know though, that the most likely bottle neck to meeting deadlines is the borrower not providing the requested documentation in a timely fashion. You can be your own worst enemy if your lender needs something and you don't get it to them right away.

Nick Rafello answered:
You're lease will start the day after your current lease expires. So, if your lease is ending May 31st, your new lease will start June 1st. If you're not going to renew, give your landlord notice on May 1st. You will then need to start looking immediately for a new home. Rule of thumb in NYC, you should start looking one month BEFORE your lease ends as landlords will not hold an apartment for you. Landlords like their leases to begin either the 1st or the 15th of the month.

Lisa Wozniakowski answered:
Try calling the local police department and ask them! I encourage my buyers to do their homework-- don't take anyone else's word, especially if you are concerned with crime rates. Indiana has a website where people can search a neighborhood for sex offenders and convicted felons. Your state might have the same search capabilities online.
Also, visit the neighborhood for yourself. What one person feels safe to live in might not be the same for another. The sad thing is crime can happen anywhere...never leave your doors unlocked or invite strangers inside your home!

Patrick Fields answered:
A certified check is a 'cashier's check' that you would get at a bank or credit union for a small fee. If you apply for an apartment, you should not expect to pay a deposit until you are accepted. This will secure the apartment until the lease is signed. There may be application fees that may be required at the time that you apply. This amount should be readily available from your agent, the listing agent/owner, or published in the MLS database. ... more

Actually, there is a record. This PDF is of the contract to "modernize" the elevators, but that contract is dated 1994, with the work carried out in the mid-1990s. So why was more "elevator modernization" required in August and September 2001, work for which no paperwork exists at all? ... more
