I see that you are looking to move to NJ and posted for rentals in Secaucus. I'm not sure if the Secaucus area is a must for you or not. There are some great areas a little further west that are safe, clean and friendly, within some nice towns and are along the Nj train lines that you might like to look at. These properties vary slightly based on which of the three you are interested in. Blue Heron monthly maintenance runs about 17 cent per square foot while Harmon Cove units may run as high as 53 cents per sqft. There are several units currently available in this part of Secaucus matching your size needs however size, price, and finishes always vary. This is a tough question to easily answer. New Jersey has so many different types of areas, from suburban to country to city living. There are many demographic websites which offer a multitude of facts (most based on the US census). Choose a few towns and drive around. Get a feel for each community, go to the local police station and ask questions about crime rates. Visit the town's municipal building and pick up local information.
