That's a good question, Gary.

I have a friend who fancies himself a pretty good cook, and he wanted to bottle up some spaghetti sauce and sell it to his friends, and the city wanted him to submit his kitchen plans for approval, which made him ask what his rights were in making up a good batch of sauce and selling it to friends.

Well, you know what happened, and thankfully, nobody got sick because while my friend is a pretty good cook, he's not a really good food packager.

In your case, you may be able to be discriminatory if it's a 1-4 family house and you don't implicate a real estate licensee. But that's not a guarantee, and you might call the local authorities to see if you are burdened by the requirements of the fair housing laws.

Hi Raj,

Their is a lot information online to assist you in learning about any area. I would recommend checking the San Jose PD site for crime stats for the area. Then Google the area to see if there are any comments or reviews. And for checking the schools check the web site It will give you the neighborhood schools and the API scores. Driving the area at various times and speaking with the neighbors is another good way to find out about any area.

Good Luck and lets us know if we can be of further help.

Hi mallorym.711,

Ask family and friends for a good lender (unless you're going to be paying all cash). The first step before looking is to get pre-approved for a loan. This way, you know what properties to look at since you will know your price range. Also, most (if not all) sellers request buyers to submit their pre-approval letter with their offer.

Once you have your pre-approval, interview a few Realtors to assist you in finding your home and hire one. (The seller usually pays all commission - for both the listing agent and the buyer's agent).

Lastly, save as much money as you can for down payment/closing costs.

Hi Billy,

Each part of Los Angeles is very very different. If there is a specific area in Los Angeles you are referring to, I would suggest you contact the local police department and ask about that zip code or just do a google search about crime in that zip code.

Please let me know if you have any other real estate related needs or questions!

Tommie, thanks for the question regretfully we as agents could not tell you, x village is safe or y town is full of criminals. We can be the source of the source. Check out:, Savannah-Chatham Metro PD has a crime map on there website. Also I always tell my clients that they need to drive the neighborhood they are intending to live in at least morning noon and night just to make sure it is where you want to be. Thanks again Tommie and good luck.

Best high schools are Palm Harbor University High and East Lake High School. Opinion varies on middle schools but Tarpon Springs Middle School and Joseph L Carwise both have good things said about them.

There is a great tool on the Pinellas County Schools site that lets you put in the address of a house and it will show you which schools that address is zoned for.

(I've tried to include a link to that tool and hopefully it will show when this posts.)
