What are the upcoming color trends in real estate?

Asked by Roberta Murphy, Carlsbad, CA Fri Jan 18, 2008

I keep hearing about earth tones, but am wondering about other possibilities.

As a working professional stager in the bay area, you can never go wrong with earth tones for the very reason that , as previously stated, it's your best bet for matching with your buyers furnishings. Obviously, we don't want buyers to mentally start changing colors. Never give a buyer a reason not to buy a house. Bold colors will narrow your field of buyers..I call it a "needle in a haystack" buyer. But to address your questions, I've used creamy yellow walls to tone down cobalt blue kitchen tile. Benjamin Moore has a wonderful color called "Pearl Harbor" that I've also used several times. It's a cross between a creamy yellow and a taupe, if you can believe it.

Earth tones are always a winner. Accessories make the biggest difference.

If you are preparing your house to sell, warm neutral (tan, taupe) colors are a must. That way, a buyer's furniture and accessories will (almost) always match. If you are decorating your home for living, choose any colors that you enjoy!

Roberta, the coming year brings hues of red and green seeing a comeback with accents still leaning towards earthy shades of brown.

Very suiting to the current market and the money lost by foreign investment in the mortgage market and the bloodletting as a result.

Roberta, oh yes there are many. With this year being the year of the Olympics in China there will be an Asian influence both in colors as well as accent pieces.

Plus blue is making a come back. Be sure to read the article I wrote in my blog at Sacramento REAL Estate Voice where you can pick up additional trends in Real Estate.
