You definitely need to start by finding an agent that can help you with information on homes in the areas as well as putting you in touch with a local lender, etc. I'm sure any of us here on this site are a good choice, depending on the location you're moving to. Finding a motivated and experienced agent is key to your success. I am licensed in both Md and Pa and would love to assist as well.

Hi Jazmin;

What area of Maryland are you planning on moving to? Are you looking for suggestions on areas or are you moving to a specific place for a job relocation?
One suggestion that you can do now is to look online at real estate web sites. They can be a good source of information.
The next would be to meet and interview a few buyers agents. A good buyer agent does not cost you anything and will be there to guide you through the entire home buying process.
I would be happy to be included.

I would suggest getting pre-approved for a mortgage to start, so that you know what price range you can afford. That way you can also get a handle in understanding what the costs are for buying a house in Maryland.

Also, since you are a first time buyer in Maryland, you may qualify for a number of different down payment assitance grant/loan programs which can give you a little more flexibility in the purchase price. I discuss these type of programs at length in my blog: http://www.ThoughtsAboutRealEstate.com

If you would like to get pre-approved for a mortgage and find out what types of programs you qualify for, please feel free to contact me. But whatever you decide to do, Welcome to Maryland!

First question is where will you be working - the lowest prices are in Southern Maryland, Charles County mostly - it is where my office is located. I can help you get started - first we need to get you approved for a mortgage, and that will tell us what price range we can hunt in - I can send you emails daily of new hot listings as soon as they hit the market, so you can beat other buyers to those - just give me a call at 301-893-6207 or on my cell at 240-416-0283, or visit my web site at http://www.SoMdTeamOne.com
Looking forward to working with you!

Hi Jazmin
i would say your best bet is to speak with a licensed Realtor in the area.
A referral from someone is always helpful.
Interview a couple of realtors before signing on with one.
Look for someone who knows the area you are looking to purchase in.
Best of Luck!
