Looking for a place for mom in OH

Asked by Larisa Holloman, Virginia Thu May 22, 2008

I'm trying to help my mom find a decent place in or around Cincinnati OH (I live in VA); she's older, and is looking for something convenient to bus lines. Are there some decent neighborhoods in the area where I could buy something for her? She just needs a little place, not a mansion - she lives in an efficiency apt. now, but they keep having shootings and an awful lot of sewage issues (her place has been flooded more than once). She's looked around but is limited by the bus lines - she'd have to take every bus in town to look around each area. Any ideas or suggestions?

I work in the northeast section of Cincinnati and have loads of experience finding homes for "empty nesters". There are so many wonderful places she can find right on the bus route. Your mom should find a good agent to talk with and that agent should be willing to drive your mom around to find homes on the bus route. Of course your mom would have to be preapproved by a finanical institution and know how much she wouldlike to spend. Also she should know what her criteria would be for her new home. ie number of beds, location, accessabiliy etc... Hope this helps.

Kevin gave you a great answer and I had nothing to add, but now I have to let you know that Centerville is Dayton. She should look somewhere close to the friends that she has now. If she needs help they will be near and that would give me peace of mind if I was 5 --6 hours away from my Mom.

Hi Larisa!

Although it is 30 min north of Cincy, I highly recommend Centerville. It is conveinent to bus lines, and very safe. You can rent a place in Centerville for around $500/month. If you are willing to go more north, you can rent in Oakwood for $400/month. It is also close to bus lines and very safe. I just sold a home in Belmont (5 minutes from Oakwood) for $60,000, so the mortgage, taxes, and insurance are only $475/month. Please let me know if you have anymore questions.

There is most likely an area that she or you know friends or family. That is the best place to start.
