Question Details

Kenton, Home Buyer in New York, NY

I am moving back to the LA area after living in the east for the last 15 years. I'll be working in Glendale.

Asked by Kenton, New York, NY Wed May 7, 2008

The children are in college, so schools are not an issue. I used to love LaCanada and Pasadena neighborhoods. I like traditional, quality built homes. Any recommendations or advice would be appreciated.

Hi. There is a really great pocket in Glendale/Burbank called Kenenth Village. It is in the north of Glendale. The homes are beautiful. Lots of 30's spanish and 40's. Very graceful homes. It is a pricey neighborhood...but as everywhere prices have come down substantially. It is possible to get a great deal on a really fabulous home. Look in the NorthWest Glendale area when you are focusing your search.

Thanks,

Sarah

I lived in Southern California for 30 years and sold real estate there. May I recommend a Realtor to help with your search?

It is difficult to find homes even at the entry level for less than $500K in Burbank, Glendale offers more and Pasadena is ideal for "traditional quality built homes" and is especially noted for Historic Preservation. So if by traditional you mean architecturally correct homes that are not necessarily part of a tract, all three cities offer this. The qualifing factor will be your price range. If having been in the east for 15 years means you haven't visited for awhile, I strongly suggest you look at traffic as a primary consideration as well. Gas is now approximately $4.00 per gallon and traffic- especially the 210 through Pasadena can be brutal. Good Luck. Cindy Vedder

If you could expand a little more about what you like, we could probably dial you in a little better. La Canada -Flintridge, Pasadena and San Marino all have some beautiful traditional homes, as does Sierra Madre even.

If it is in your budget, I personally am very fond of San Marino. You can check all these areas out on http://www.400Khomes.com
