Are there any summer activities in the local area for kids 8-10 years old?

We are looking to move into the area in the next 6 months, are there local summer camps, sports etc?

Hi Lookingupstate,

You can reference the Yorktown Heights Recreation Department with their updated summer 2010 activities:

There are plenty of activities in the area! My assistant's newphew is 8 years old. His summer acitivites include camp, art classes, sports teams. There are many camps to choose from including town camps to private camps such as camp kiwi. In addition there is a town pool, parks to visit and much more! I moved up from the Bronx about 15 years ago with my husband and son and we are very happy with our decision!

I'm so glad in this cold weather that someone is thinking summer! Yes, there are many activites, sports, camps, parks. Yorktown has two pools for residents, one with a large slide (the kids just love that) the other pool site offers 4 pools at the same site. We have the large swimming pool, a diving pool, a pool with a water spray for the little ones, and an interactive pool. There is also a beach on the lake, good for swimming or fishing. As a Mom of 4, I can tell you first hand, my kids spend all summer at the pool.
If you are interested in working with a local agent, give me a call, I'd love to help you find just the right place to call home for your family.

The Town of Yorktown provides a broad selection of summer camp options from half day to full day .For the older kids we have travel camps that involved going to amusments parks, Met/Yankee baseball and Broadway plays. We have a local sport club, Yorktown Athletic Club that provides a higher level of competition for baseball players (You must try out for these teams). We also have a swim team that meets every day in July and competes in A and B meets depending of the level of swimmer (all kids make the B meets) There are privately owned day camps that are run in the area and provide busing (& lunch) to and from the camp. We even have a local theatre that offers a day camp and they put on great shows at Yorktown Stage. So I can say after living here for 18 years, yes, Yorktown provides many things for the kids to do!

Funny that the best answer is from a fellow agent in White Plains.

I was born and raised in Yorktown and I can personally tell you; its a great place to grow up! Yes there are plenty of activities for your children right IN Yorktown, though all the surrounding communities provide countless activities, you don't have to look far unless you want to.

When you are ready to work with a Buyers Agent:, give me a call. In the mean time, feel free to browse all homes for sale in Yorktown: http://www.stlawrenceproperties.net/yorktown-ny.php

Plus there is the Katonah Museum of Art that has a wing dedicated to Children's activites and events. My own children used to love to go to an exhibit and get a clipboard on which there was a paper with bits of hints and they had a sort of scavenger hunt looking for some detail somewhere in the exhibit that they could check off. Art is supposed to make you see!
Also there are school field trips there as well as to Caramoor down the road on Museum Mile which offers tours (I am a Docent there)plus age appropriate concerts.
I hope this has helped!

Also a great deal of residents of Yorktown take part in the many Parades, Festivals, Fairs and classes offered in Katonah NY - just East of Yorktown.
