Garry Forrest, Home Buyer in 90036

Who benefits?

Asked by Garry Forrest, 90036 Thu Jan 22, 2009

Realtors make more money when I pay more for a home. Why should I think that a realtor is interested in anything other than get me to pay the most money? Three percent (times two) of $500,000 is more commission than 3% (times two) of $470,000.

Not that you folks aren't pleasant people, And these days any sale is better than no sale.

Just askin'.

The check and balance here is that agents don't get paid until they execute a contract that closes. Your point about agents making more if the property sells for more BUT the agents function is to bring the buyer and seller together with an agreement. The real driving force for any contract are the customers. Nothing happens without their signatures and nobody can force them to accept terms they do not want to accept.

A great Realtor would be interested in serving your best interests so they form a lasting relationship with you. When you are happy, you will refer your friends, families and co-workers to them. It should never be about one transaction or one commission! I will represent someone on a $100k home just as readily as I would a million dollar home.
