Steve, Other/Just Looking in Jersey City, NJ

I'm looking into leasing an apartment in Jersey City on Fairmount Ave. between JFk and Bergen. Is it safe?

Asked by Steve, Jersey City, NJ Sat Dec 29, 2007

is it considered the ghetto?

Although I work with many buyers, renters and sellers in the area I legally need to direct you to a public resource and would suggest that you talk to neighbors in the area.

I know this answer may seem odd but take into account my version of safe and your version of safe are different and any agent that give you a personal opinion on this matter not only is breaking the law but no doing due diligence for you.

Let me know how i can help!

You can look into the demographics, crime rate, school information and housing information at…

Do your own homework and walk the area and see if you feel comfortable there.

Jersey City crime statistics have been pretty good recently, but I'd still consider all urban areas with caution. You simply have to watch your back these days no matter where you live. If I were going to move into a given apartment building, I'd spend a few hours walking the streets, visiting local shops, and just getting a vibe. In some areas, you can sense danger. In other areas, everything seems to be in place. You really have to judge this for yourself. Everyone has a different comfort level. You can also always just stop at the local police precinct and just ask. Good luck in JC!
