Jarad, Home Buyer in Roosevelt Gardens Area...

I want to find a safe neighborhood within 40 miles from Norfolk Airport.

Asked by Jarad, Roosevelt Gardens Area, Norfolk, VA Sat Jul 28, 2007

I prefer the country style living over living in the city. Is Suffolk safe? oh, yeah. I'm a first time homebuyer and looking for something affordable if you know what I mean. Thanks

Hi, Jarad There are many very nice communities in Hampton Roads, with a rural like setting. Suffolk would surely be a good starting point for what you are looking for. There are affordable areas closer to the airport . What is your price range? As far as safe, I would suggest drive through the neighborhood that you choose at night to see what it is like after dark. This can sometimes give an idea of whats going on in that area.

I've been blogging away all day, and noticed that no one has gotten to your question yet. I think a bunch of REALTORs took the day off, and someone forget to tell me! I'm not familiar with your area; so, for now, if you haven’t done so already, you can start here on trulia. Simply go to the Real Estate Guides tab and type in a zip code or city/state. Best of luck and happy hunting!

Hi Jarad. In regards to your questions about Suffolk being safe. Every city has its good and bad parts, and the bad can intrude on the good without notice. I would think an established community in Suffolk would be a great jumping point in your search. Have you already gotten pre-qualified and know about how much you want to spend? How large of a lot are you looking for? May I ask why you are centering your search around the airport? Bear in mind the traffic you will be facing on both ends of that commute. Do you currently work in or near Suffolk? Southern Chesapeake also offers rural living. I think there are something like 803 homes under $200k on at least a 1 acre lot. If you have a minimum bedroom count let me know and I can narrow down your search.

Hi Jarad,

It seems there aren't any other realtors in my area answering questions. I just joined today.

Suffolk is a nice area. Some of the area is getting more built up than others, but suffolk spans out to a very rural area depending on what you want. You may also want to consider Chesapeake, Isle of Wight County or even York County.

If there are any more questions you have please feel free to contact me.
