Is there a buying Season in South Florida?

Asked by Manny Aguilar, Miami Lakes, FL Thu Jun 14, 2007

Should a buyer wait for the buying season or buy in the slow months?

As we all know the current real estate market favors buyers, and South Florida has been hit particularly hard by the downturn. Certainly in a more competitive market, a "slower season" (summer--but it is more of a year-round destination these days) would allow for greater negotiating power. But in the current market climate, season--on or off--would provide no distinct advantage. The mortgage industry problems may be more compelling influence, especially considering the costs of homes in that area. Hope that helps!

IN my neck of the woods, in south west florida and specially along the gulf of Mexico the best deals are between May to september. My advice would be to check how long that property you are interested in has been in the market.

Miami is has a year round season because of its flavor. I was born and raised in the Miami area. Because of its international flair and the ease of the language When the Snow birds go home in the Summer the South Americans come up because it is their winter. My suggestion is to find a qualified FULL-TIME Realtor to help make a wise decision. If you like I have some fantastic Realtors in the Miami Market.

I am on the other side of the country, but a client of mine in Arizona currently has a condo for sale in Miami. All I know is that if there is a peak buying season in Florida, now isn't it. There was a big rush to get it sold before hurricane season tipped off. Unfortunately, his deal blew up, so he is somewhat resigned to a slow late summer/early fall. I'm speaking out of school, though, and should really let the local pros field this one.

My guess for the best buys it would be the summer months that are to hot in florida.
