I usually recommend "googling" not only the agent's name, but other key phrases, like "birmingham mi real estate". Does your agent show up on the first few pages? What about for her own name? There is a fuller reference article below called "Help, I can't find your agent!"

There are a number of ways to find out how much of a web presence an agent has. One way is to "google" the name of the agent. Another idea is to put in the name of the area and add the words real estate, agent, real estate agent. If the agent has a strong presence their name should pop up.

The method I use when I am seeing which of my competition as Realtors has the best presence I go to the major search engines and search for terms that are appropriate for my specific market area. How do I rank compared to them. Then I know what I need to strive for or how far ahead of my competition I am. I do this on Google, Yahoo and MSN. It is always interesting because often one may have a high ranking on one, but not another. I also go to which allows myself to easily find out how my site ranks against anyone elses. The search engine saturation choice is the best to find the rankings.

I also search the Realtors name to see how many pages come up for each. I can search one agents name and see three items come up, and with another there can be thousands of pages. I think this is important as many agents think they have a website, but instead actually have a web page. Many companies and MLSs give agents a web page.

I tell all the sellers if I am competing, to please Google all the agents. That will tell them who is the most technological.

Google them, and OR Google any of the homes they represent.

Doing a Google or Yahoo search is by far the best method. How and where they market means very little if they are not popping up in a top position in a search. Also...visit their website. How fresh is the material? How easy is it to contact the agent from their website? How quickly do they respond?

Find out how and where they market on the internet. Searching an agents name via google will not determine if they have a strong web presence.

There are a couple of different issues to consider when determining how effective a Realtor is on-line. Evaluating their position through a search engine such as Google and entering their area and/or name is a starting point. It can also be helpful to visit a real estate agent's blog to get an idea of how they interact with people on-line. Lastly, I would place an inquiry on their website to see how quickly and effectively they respond.
