We are moving from Denver, a 4700sqft beautiful home on a cul de sac this winter. I realize we will have to downgrade, but I want a nice place. Job is located in Mnt View and would like to be a short commute from there. Two children preschoo/elementary age and want the best schools. I understand some schools there are "impacted". I think it is smart to rent first and get to know the areas, plus Im not sure my home in Denver will sell (might rent it too) Please help! Im overwhelmed!

For $3500. you should be able to get something in either the Cuesta Park neighborhood or Waverly Park neighborhood (west of El camino real). There is also possibilities to get a home in Mountian vVew with Los Altos schools (best in the state for K-8). If you would like, I can make an annoucement in our office meeting and network with a few other agents in town (next week) to see if there are any pocket rentals that are comming up taht might meet your needs.

Glen is correct that Craigslist.org is the best resource for finding a rental, especially a single-family home. Compared to your home in Denver, you should expect to find a house of around 1500 - 2000 sf, and a yard about 6000 sf in Mountain View. Your budget of $3500/month will get you a 3-4 bedroom, 2 bath home built in the 1950's on a 6000 foot lot. The best elementary schools in Mountain View are Bubb and Huff. These are both in the 94040 zip code on the south side of El Camino Real. All the elementary schools in Mountain View are good, with the exception of Castro.

A great resource for school information is: http://www.greatschools.net.

Please email or visit my website for more tools to help you with school information or rentals. I used to live in west Denver, and many of my clients are relocating from elsewhere.

Denverfam, I do some property management, but don't currently have anything in Mountain View. Most agents in the area don't advertise on the MLS so I typically refer renters to Craigslist. There are 6 active rentals on the mls for mountain view and if you send me an address I can email them to you with pictures and more details.
Good luck with the home sale!
