You should contact the Title company. They are normally responsible for checking back taxes, utilities, violations and liens against a property before the sale. They will be able to explain why these outstanding bills was not detected.

Normally, all outstanding bills, which includes water and taxes are collected in full up to the date of closing and in some cases an additional amount is held in escrow. Therefore, I would suggest you discuss this matter with your attorney at the time of closing and the title company.

Good Luck

You can contact the listing agent who will be able to help you learn more about that specific property (and probably will know a lot about similar properties in the area). To find an agent, just click on the yellow button on the property's Trulia listing and you will be able to start a dialogue.

Please let me know if you have any questions or if I can help with anything else. I am happy to be a resource for you. Good luck with the search!

Don't simply rely on online valuations as some may be inaccurate nor updated; rather ask any local agents for a cma, comparative market analysis; cma's are provided free of charge by most agents, or simply hire a professional appraiser. ... more
