Gatling Point is a great neighborhood. I stopped by today and visited a past client of mine who I helped buy a home there. She and her parents both live there. It's an East West Community. That developer builds in other areas as well so if you like the feel of the neighborhood (club houses, tons of activities, etc., ) you can look at any of those type of communities. I live in the Riverfront, which is also build by East West and has the same feel (absolutely awesome swimclub, social feel). Gatling Point is in Smithfield, as you probably know. No new building out there like there is in the sister community in Suffolk but the taxes are lower. If you are interested in resale and not new construction, then there are some opportunities in Gatling Point. There are a few homes that you may get a deal on there - but may need a little tlc. For the most part, the area has kept up pretty well. You'll find a mixture of exteriors such as wood, hardy plank and brick there. Call me if you would like tour of the different neighborhoods. There are several that have a similiar feel. The Riverfront has more variety as far as style and you can still build to suit there. Lots of options. ... more

I moved here from Northern Virginia as well (Falls Church). I completely understand how difficult it is to leave Fairfax County Schools! HRA is a great private school, but I encourage you to check out the Williamsburg-James City County Public Schools...I think you will be very pleased with them! Please feel free to call or email me directly if you have any other specific school or move-related concerns. Sally Kerner - Realtor, Liz Moore & Associates 757-206-6822 email: ... more

We live in Williamsburg and have one son who attended Toano Middle School last year. This coming year both of our sons will be attending the new Hornsby Middle School which is opening this year. Our school district ( Williamsburg/ James City County) just closed one middle school ( James Blair) and redistricted many of the neighborhoods. Many principals and teachers are moving as well. So be aware that Hornsby Middle won't show up in any of the tests results or rankings and that the recent staff moves will have an impact on school results.

You can find the school information you are seeking for any school in the Williamsburg VA area as well as schools in James City County, Newport News, Hampton, Poquoson, Isle of Wight, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Va Beach, Norfolk, Chesapeake, Suffolk and any other twon/city /county of Virginia on the Dept of Education website for the State of Virginia and look up any incident of crime or violence.

The Charts & Reports feature on the DOE website can provide any of the following Information about Reported Incidents in schools,Information about Offenses and their frequency in schools ,Information about Student Offenders ,Information about Non-student Offenders and Information about the Disciplinary Outcomes that resulted from the student offenses .

You can search for these reports for any school in the state of Virginia. Do realize that not all principals or schools report offenses in the same manner. I know principals in different school districts who confirm that incidents are reported differently in area schools. The site will allow you to search by:

School Year ,School Division – up to 2 at a time,,School Type i.e. elementary, middle, or high school,School Name – up to 20 at a time, Offense Category (groups of like offenses) – 1 at a time ,Offense Type – up to 8 at a time ,Discipline Type – for Disciplinary Outcomes and Student Offenders charts only and Time Element – for Incident Frequency, Offense Frequency and Non-student Offenders charts only

I stand corrected. The City of Williamsburg has incorrect information on their website. In fact Holly Hills, Walnut Hills, and Yorkshire neighborhoods are all in Lafayette High School Attendance zone for 2008. You can also call the school board office to ask. There number is 757 253 6777
Thanks Laura for the correction !
