There are many neighborhoods that you should consider. However, the answer of which one is best for you will be dictated by your budget. Consider South Loop, UIC Medical District, Pilsen, Tr-Taylor (little Italy), Bronzeville, West Loop, etc...) For pricing, take a look at our site: iMoveChicago.com and you can get a sense of what apartments rent for. If you see something tat sparks your interest, give us a call. We have one of the largest databases of available apartments in the city. Call on us!

As a Humboldt Park resident of many years, I disagree with the poster who tells you to avoid it due to safety. First, Humboldt Park is technically one of the city's largest designated neighborhoods and incorporates a massive variety of everything, from organic seitan wrap litter to discarded flaming hot cheetos bags.

Your rent range is doable in all those neighborhoods although you will get a severely more dated place in the Bucktown area for that price.

In terms of safety, don't listen to anybody on here. Go take a walk down the streets that have apartments you are interested in. Then go back at night. Spend at least 30 minutes each time hanging out, eating cheetos, and noticing how you feel. If you feel comfortable, that's what you are looking for.

The Chicago Police Department has a thorough crime stat/location site but it sometimes confuses things more as you might notice pockets of Lincoln Park show more crime than Humboldt Park.

This will be tough to find in this area, but you may get lucky. Be prepared to move quickly, and ideally, have your credit report run in advance before weekend showings. That gives you a head start over other applicants. You may need to go west to find this much space at that price point, however. Work with an agent who can find the best place for you at the amount you're willing to spend. ... more
