When it comes to any safety/crime related issues, it's always best to contact the local authorities with all your questions, hear all there is to hear firsthand. If unfamiliar with the area(s) do revisit more than once and at different times of day, possibly chat with locals/neighbors. Real estate professionals are prohibited from steering, enticing a buyer to purchase/rent, or not, in specific neighborhoods.

You may move out if you wish. However, please know that sometimes a lender will send inspectors to short sale homes to verify occupancy. It only runs 12 hours a day. So, and only two buses run every half hour. The others run every hour. There are no back up buses so if one bus is late, it misses the connectiions with all other buses and you are late. Not a reliable way to get to work, but on an off day when you had a couple of places to go, its not bad. ... more

People sell their homes for all kinds of reasons. Job transfers, divorce, health reasons, death, birth, down sizing, up sizing whatever. Some sellers have been waiting and watching the market to put their homes up for sale. One school of thought is "if my neighbor puts their home up for sale and I have been thinking of selling; their home may sell my home so I'll list it and see what happens". As far as safety, the best answer was from the Agent in NY, speak with the police department if you have concerns. ... more
