It is really a personal preference. You need to think what's most important to you and the people in your family who will be using it. If you want to be close to the waterfront, you might need to compromise on size. If you can get to the waterfront by a short drive or by bike, and you will be using a pool more often, then you know what's best for your needs. You didn't mention price. In my opinion, there is more to just the season that makes it the right time to purchase a home in The Hamptons. There is the motivation from the buyer and seller, the amount of inventory, and the reason for purchasing. The season does not matter if the buyer NEEDS to be in the home by a specific date.
