Yes. They will lie to you about everything. Read the 20 page lease. After they lock you in, you will have to pay 2 month's rent and a concession to move out -- and you will want to break your lease.

Meth labs. Drug dealers. Prostitution. Security guards who will stalk you. Shared air conditioning means you breath crack from your neighbors.

Low Income housing was given away by the first manager to all his crack-head friends.

Smurfs and druggies come all night long.

Poor construction that everyone complains about. Noise from neighbors unavoidable. Building defects and code violations throughout -- LA city is complacent.

Construction 5 days a week by goons who arrive before dawn. Unskilled and dangerous OSHA violations occurring daily. Fumes poison residents and air samples show high levels of
Formaldehyde 100+ ng/L and all of the chemicals used to manufacture drugs:

Isopropanol, Acetone, Hexanal, Propylene glycol, xylene.

Building and safety will do nothing when you ask for help.

Expect to gain at least 20 pounds in half a lease. Expect liver, cognitive, kidney, and other drug-related 2nd and 3rd hand exposure health issues.

Do you really want to live there? It should be shut down and red tagged and everyone involved sued.

Thanks for all responses. To clarify, my son will be graduating from college with a new job offer to start in LA in June so it sounds like it will depend on the landlord/owner. Do real estate agents charge a fee for rentals? So confusing given the many websites out there Westsiderentals, trulia, Zillow, craigslist, apartmenthunters, etc. ... more

There are over a dozen lots for sale in the area, ranging from $200K to $8MM.

The cheaper lots will tend to be hillside lots that require a lot of grading to make them suitable for building on.

Anything with an ocean view will command a high price in that area.

As long as you can provide 2 deposits and first month's rent you will be fine as well. I have never found providing references from previous landlords helpful at all because 90% of the time the new landlord is worried about if you can pay for the unit you will lease from him, its fine and dandy if you were on time 5 years ago but 5 years ago is different from today. Having a cosigner with decent - good credit is a great resource as well in case you can't provide stubs or do not have the money to put down for 2 deposits.
Hope this helps. :)

Keith, you are more than welcome to call me directly. I have closed almost 40 leases in just as many months so I know how to find apartments. I also personally have sold many apartment buildings and know the owners directly in many different areas. My services are free to you and I will only ask you for a recent credit report. If you don't have one, my company can do it for a $25 fee.

Hi Todd,

It's great that you plan to move over to California. I live and work in Southern California and I have given out loans to non-U.S residences. So if you are seeking a home loan in order to buy a house in California let me know cause I can definitely try to get you the loan that you need.

Well I hope this helps! If you have any further questions or if you need a loan, feel free to contact me. Also, if you found this helpful please leave me a recommendation if you can!

Good Luck!
