I would say at the latest start the beginning of May. Some large complexes will have a log of many apartments that are available and any given date but if you need the help of a Realtor to set up a search let me know.
Good luck

Sometimes a property goes under contract but the seller still allows for showings because the deal is NOT solid. Whilst the MLS requires brokers to update a listing within 24 hours of contract execution, there is a tag whereby the property can still be shown because contract terms have not be completely approved. The Garfield Park rental market is Horrible. Lots of deadbeats and sob stories. The potential renters are mostly scam artists. Landlords have to be very careful. Never trust anyone. Be careful of rental agents. There are hundreds listed on CL that promise apartments to people with horrible credit, multiple evictions, etc. Many of the ads are creative and funny, but... Be careful. Find tenants yourself and do a complete background search yourself. Good luck. ... more

In 2010 Garfield Park a single 65 year old womam walking alone at night? Not a good idea unless you are very physicaly fit. (It would be wise to contact AARP for self defense advice.) There is very little to walk to in daytime and nothing at night. In the daytime the world famous Garfield Park Conservatory is great. The French Market there is also good. The park field house has classes. The park is beautiful and a great place to walk dogs. Please be aware that Garfield Park is still primarily a "bedroom community" because it still lacks most of the basics and variety that a non-driver would need, expect and probably want. People tend to drive (or bike) to other neighborhoods for most things and activities. There are very few small apartments in the neighborhood. Big rental units are dirt cheap but for the same money you could have a nice studio or 1 bedroom apartment in a neighborhood that is not a "bedroom community". Many studio apartments include heat. Very few apartments of any size in Garfield Park do. It's not a good neighborhood for a single 65/66 year old woman to walk at night. At night in Any neighborhood Always walk on well lit streets if possible - even if it means walking out of of your way/going the long way. Muscle mass declines with age so it is a good idea to carry pepper spray and of course be aware of your surroundings. Good luck. ... more
