Waterford Lakes is located mid town in closer proximity to shopping. It is possible to walk to a Publix grocery store. This is a newer community with smaller lots and fewer trees. The community pool is smaller and there is not a clubhouse. Garden Grove is located south on Hwy One near the county line. Shopping is convenient by car only. This older community has a large clubhouse with many activities and large pool. Mature landscaping and a bit larger lots characterize Garden Grove. Neither community is designated 55+ only but more families with children live in Waterford Lakes than in Garden Grove where more senior citizens tend to reside. ... more

Ocean Club is the only condo complex where the residents do not own the land when they purchase the condo. The land is leased with 10 year negotiations. Even though the purchase prices are especially low for the area, the maintenance fee is $950/month to pay the land lease fee -- especially high for this type of property. ... more

Legally dogs are not allowed on the beaches. However, there are private communities and also undeveloped areas where dog owners regularly bring their well behaved pets. Usually very early in the morning or early evening hours are less likely to confront any objections. Of course, owners must pick up after their dogs. Other responses have suggested places that are being developed and thus will no longer be available for non-resident pets. Designated off leash dog parks are a good place for your dog to enjoy romping with other pets and also a good source of pet friendly information. ... more

Hi!

St Augustine is a beautiful city but is more of a tourist attraction city & more congested. Vero Beach it's a more laid back, relaxing place. The beach is gorgeous with a nice boardwalk. St Augustine has more restaurants and nite life than Vero, but you could always drive North to Melbourne or South to Ft Pierce/Hutchinson Island which is 30 minutes away.

If you are retired, you will probably prefer Vero. Also, Sebastian (where I live) is 15-20 min north of Vero and it's actually more peaceful. There's hardly any traffic. The Sebastian Inlet Beach Park is breath taking! Quite frankly, I would recommend either Vero or Sebastian . Feel free to call or email me with any questions.

Thanks and Good luck in your search!

Brian Brady makes a good point - real estate agents should avoid answering this type of question due to fair housing compliance issues. Family status is one of the protected classes under federal and most state and local fair housing laws.

It's especially dangerous because Halley S, the person posing the question, has asked hundreds of questions ranging far and wide across the US. Who is Halley S?
