You got scammed because you sent your private information to a scammer to run your credit.
You got scammed because you didn't properly research how scammers operate.
You got scammed because you thought that house would be rented to you for 30-50% less than it should be renting for.
You got scammed because you didn't contact a reputable Realtor / property manager.
Trulia is not at fault. There are warnings all over Trulia to 'Beware of Scammers'.
Had you googled the phrase "Rental Scams" you probably would have come across my 2 blog posts here on TRULIA called "RED FLAGS - RENTAL SCAMS - PUBLIC BEWARE", where if you followed my guidelines you would have had a .01% chance of being scammed.
Sorry though, to hear you got scammed.
if you didn't get what you paid for, then you didn't sufficiently check who and what you were paying for.
I don't mean to be callous. I don't mean to imply you are not intelligent.
what I am saying is that scam artist are very skilled at separating people from their money.
getting scammed can happen to anyone. yes, even to those who say it'll never happen to me.
Make sure you report the scam to the proper law enforcement authority.
