Most developments in the area built in the last 20-years use a “tub-shower” combo to save money on the construction costs. If you need a walk in (no tub) shower, send me your contact info and I’ll check with my leasing team for complexes that offer that amenity.

Requirements for properties to be FHA approved seem to change daily. As of today this complex is showing that it is approved until June 28, 2013. The unit itself from the pictures and discription appears to be in good condition (other requirements you have to have for FHA loans, inspections, appraisal) when you get approved for a FHA loan your loan officer should explain these requirements to you. The listing agent states that this unit will be available for showing as of Wed 9/12. Open house is up to the agent and seller. There may not be any open houses or they may have already had one.
Not all homes for sale have an open house especially in this market when something comes on the market thy receive offers without being seen. The first few data to a week are they most busiest for viewing

Good advice below, start with getting your finances in order and talk with a lender to make sure you can get enough and the right financing to make your purchase. Find a Realtor here on Trulia or through a personal referral so you can get the guidance you need in this current real estate environment.

You have gotten your answers as far as schools go. I also wanted to let you know a little more about the listing. The price has flopped around between $480-520K & it looks like there have been a couple of different buyers who have come & gone since about March. This isn't necessarily due to bad property condition, sometimes buyers, if not educated up front about the short sale process, get antsy after 30 days & just back out.

The listing agent is stating it is "approved at $480K", that's always a questionable remark. She's probably stating that it may have been approved at that price for a previous buyer. There are other factors in a short sale that don't have anything to do with the purchase price the bank will accept.

It looks to me like there's an equity loan 2nd on this property. The other 2 buyers may have backed out because they weren't keen on offering in a cash contribution of between 10-20% of the balance of that equity 2nd.

Depending on comparable sales & the price the bank would take & how much down payment you have, it could all still pencil out to being a killer deal.
