Looking for a true one bedroom, in a safe neighborhood, for under $1700 a month. Can anyone help?

The best bet is to expand your range to many awesome NYC neighborhoods and other boroughs. Queens and Brooklyn definitely can accommodate that price range with some awesome, fun, safe neighborhoods with access to good subway lines.

Some examples:
I loved Bay Ridge, great commute on the N/R line, great restaurants, shopping and views. Running along the water, etc. I think it is a real NYC gem of a neighborhood that is already safe and friendly. I had 2 huge one bedrooms less than 2 years ago for way less than 1,700 a month.
