Dear Kristina:

Go to the web site http://www.HopStop.com and you can get directions and travel times from anywhere in the city via public transportation.

Since you're taking the R, the fastest way to get into the city would be to transfer at 36th street or at atlantic termail to the N line, the N line will goes express into the city and goes over the bridge where the 2nd stop from there is canal street; versus with the R you're first stop in the city would be Whitehall which is all the way at the bottom of manhattan

Hey commuter, the time is about 35 minutes as long as you take the R train to the N on 59th street you should be there seriously with no complications about 35 minutes. Sounds like your new to Bay Ridge, don't worry you'll love the neighborhood. Great spots to visit is Salty Dog, Tanoreen its a middle eastern restaurant it is soooo good. Also if you're in the mood for Italian Gino's on 5th avenue is so good, in case there busy vesuvio on 3rd avenue is pretty good. If you're looking for a dessert spot to sit down with coffee or tea, caffe caffe and on 84th street and 3rd avenue is great, also a good spot to meet people on the weekends, but my favorite is paneticos check it out!!! Wish you the best on your new Journey!!!! It's not the end it's just the next chapter ;)
