Ok I found it! It isn't so much a flooring as it is the construction of "timber floors." Go to the link below. It talks about replacing the timber flooring and about 7 pictures down mentions the "timber hollow flooring" construction.

I would suggest calling a timber flooring company to see if they can help you with that. They should know all of the characteristics and what would be required for your home. They can also help answer any other questions you have. I would definitely recommend calling you as soon as you can.

I haven't dealt much with timber flooring, so I'm not sure I can really answer this question. I would call a flooring company and have them see if they can answer your question. They will most likely be able to help you with everything you need. Good luck and I hope you figure everything out!

OK, reading the info from the google book link above, it looks to me that hollow floor is synonymous with suspended floor. The actual method of construction really kind of describes how we in the Northeast US would build a traditional wood floor on joists over a foundation.
The Figure 1.2 shows a frame for a wood floor slightly elevated over the concrete slab. Some builders would do this in order to put a wood floor in a basement or over a slab. You can't put the wood flooring directly on the concrete - too much moisture.
This puzzled me too.

I've heard that there are some benefits to timber-constructed homes. It sounds like they use this same method in both the framing and in the flooring. I would first consult a timber expert to see if it would be a good option for the area you're planning on buying/building a home. They should be able to give you a straight answer on whether or not you should get a timber house and what the requirements are.

I love to add unique things to my home. Things that make you say "Wow!". I am sure that timber flooring would do just that. I will have to look into this a little more.

I can't wait for more answers on this one also, as I haven't yet heard WHAT they are- just mention of them. Does someone on here have a flooring person who might know?
