PDAs - which one do you use for real estate?

Asked by Aileen-Manhattan-NYC, New York, NY Thu Aug 9, 2007

I have to buy a PDA apparently. I'm confused on what I really need to purchase. I need my Outlook to be synched - but it's web-based Microsoft Outlook, so do I really? I would like to review my listings, Word docs and PDFs while away from the office or home. I don't want to pay a lot. I already have a cell phone. Any suggestions? TREO, Blackberry, sidekick? I'm really confused. I want something fast w/ high resolution also.

Help.

Aileen...I use a TREO myself. I am able use my top producer, transaction point, documents to go i.e. excel, word and PDF's on it. I can sync with either Outlook or the palm software. Also, I can pull the MLS data for when I am out showing property. Hope this helps.

This is the PERFECT place for wuestions like this! Keep using Trulia! I'm a big fan of the Treo. I used a blackberry in the past and I find the TREO more user friendly.

Aileen, I didn't want to discourage you from Trulia Voice. There are good things about it and hopefully Trulia will clearly define its identity soon. Active Rain serves a totally different purpose - it is a social network for agents. Everyone contributes a lot of great information. You ask a question, and will get many, well thought out answers. Here (in Trulia Voice) there is a lot of self promotion going on. After a while, I see "Trulians" keep asking questions, agents answer in hope of attracting clients and every now and then you can spot a "true" (meaning not Trulian) customer asking a question. I hope that "Trulians" will regain control!

Hi Aileen,

I've owned both a Treo and a Moghul and I personally prefer the Moghul. It's a bit on the pricey side but it's more powerful than the Treo, it's got convenient touchscreen, it's faster than the Treo (internet-wise), bluetooth, speakerphone for when you can't find your bluetooth headset, and it's easily configurable to the data you have on your laptop if you ever need to sync the two. The only gripe I have about the PDA is that it needs to be charged every day without fail, its battery life is not that great but if you don't mind it or if you don't mind buying 2 batteries, 1 for emergency, then I definitely like the Moghul better than the Treo. Hope this helped, have a fun time at the store this weekend!

Hi Aileen,

First of all, apparently Trulia developers were thinking that this is the forum for questions like the one you poased, as you they provided the category of "Tech Tips", which is where you posted.

I have used a Blackberry in the past (so I don't know what the new fangled ones are like) and now I am using a Treo 650 (palm based not Microsoft) and I really like it. I do have to say that I wish the volume could be raised a little higher.

I find it interesting that you say you have to buy a PDA. I don't know what your reasoning is behind having to buy one, but I know many people who function very well without one. They are not tech savvy and this would just be one more thing to learn. If you are able to keep your appointments and your files in order, I don't think it's something that one has to have.

You already have a cell phone, so you either need to change the # over to the PDA/Smartphone or you will have to pay for service on both. You will also need to get a data package as well in order to access the internet.

If you have a laptop with wifi capabilities, that may suit you better. You can access documents that are on your computer, but if you need to go online, go to one of many free wifi spots (Panera is one I like).

Aileen,
I too have a treo. I like being able to keep my calendar, or make appts. on the fly. It has been really useful.
