The best way to judge a neighborhood is to spend time in it. Go to parks, coffee shops, neighborhood markets, and talk to people. Most areas in Silicon Valley are "safe" enough that other factors are going to decide how much you like it.

You've already been provided with the crime reporting web sites. You also need to keep in mind that a "safe" neighborhood may show up poorly in recent reports because an out of area crime group has found that everyone leaves their doors unlocked...

For anyone to give an opinion on the safety of any specific street, neighborhood or area would be very unwise. The terrible tragedy in Connecticut happened in a neighborhood and in a school that most people would have deemed “safe”.

I used to live in Sunnyvale and I do not recall any area in the city that I would consider unsafe. BUT…that is no guarantee that something bad could happen in any given location.

There are various websites that will report crime statistics.

Drive the neighborhood and make your own determination of what it looks like.

If you check

https://www.crimereports.com/

You can drag the map to see the relative density of crime and what types of crime are in what locations.

Yes, if you check the Megan's Law website, you see a photo of the sex offender who lives (or used to live) on that street. He may have MOVED away since then. I have copy pasted the information below, but you should search the database yourself since you are the one who would be affected.

I have similar advice as Grace except that I see you meant 8-8:30pm at NIGHT. In that case, also make sure to wear something bright so cars can see you.

As REALTORs we are not supposed to steer people away or toward specific areas. However, I can tell you I know someone who rented in that neighborhood and commuted by CAR to his work at AMD, which is right there on Duane. He didn't have any problems, but also he went by CAR not bike.

Best is to check it out yourself at those times of night.
