Try Kilnsea Village in Summerville. They have a senior building for 55 and over but may make an exception to age. There is an elevator. Open floor plan and doors wide enough to accommodate a wheelchair. Very nice quiet apartments. Masterbedroom is size of a hotel room. ... more

Summerville has the best schools. Dorchester II district is your best bet. I don't know where you are moving from but I must inform you if you have school aged children stay away from Summerville High and Fort Dorchester they are not the best especially Summerville High. When my son was in that school the football coach let a player who has staph infection and let him play even though he was having a break out. Well because of this they had a break in the school, they never reported it to the health dept they didn't close school so it could be cleaned correctly. All they did and this is while the kids were inside the school was clean the walls and floors with bleach water, my son came home sick to his stomach every day from the bleach fumes. Basically they covered the whole issue up and now my son has to live with this infection for the rest of his life. The outbreak even went on to Fort Dorchester High but I'm not sure how they handled it. I have Dr. reports going back to when it first happend, I think I may call Fort and see what they say because Summervilles Nurse is telling me she has been there for more than 10 years and she never heard of any outbreak! Now on a much better note my son who is a senior goes to Ashley Ridge High School and it is one of the best in the county and one of the newest built schools. He is also doing very well in this school and he enjoys going there, most of the teachers are young and very good at teaching. His GPA is over a 3.3 right now and he still has a few months left. With that GPA he is entitled 2 years in a Technical College for free with a $300.00 book allowance, unfortunately that will probably only cover 2 books. As far as Elementary School Flowertown and Newington are very good, middle school would be Oakbrook. They also have an Elementary school Right next to it and it is not a bad school. It's very hard to find good school in this aera os SC since we are #49 in the ranking system. BAD, BAD, BAD!!! I wish you the best of luch moving to SC and I hope that I helped you make the right decision in locating an area to live. I also want to add that Brandy Mill is a great Subdivision to live in there ard many very good and safe places to live but my advice is to STAY AWAY FROM GREENHURST it is nothing but a drug den. Also if your starting in an apartment STAY AWAY FROM SOMERSET believe me I made the mistake of moving there and moved out the very next day and while I was moving I was robbed of something very expensive, 4 Ozzfest tickets. Luckey I purchased them with a CC so I was able to make a police report and was able to attend, those 4 tickets were worth $400.00 for them all. Who ever stole them sold them on Ebay but talked the people into not going through Ebay and they wired the money to him. They got the tickets but had to leave when the main show started. I tried to help them the best I could, we even spoke on the phone a few times. The guy who stole them used the apt # that I rented for one day. I'm sorry I have gone on forever but these are things that I wish I had known before moving here. Again Good Luck with everything!! ... more

I rent a home through a real estate company and they include a type of renters insurance that more or less covers any damage to the home, not my belongings. I pay an extra $10 per month in my rent for that. I dont have renters insurance that covers my belongings so I'm not sure of that cost. ... more
