It's better to go through a Realtor to find any home, because that's what they do and they have the best "finger on the pulse" of the market. They know where to look and have experience finding homes. That said, it's very hard for them to find "option to buy" homes as well. We are in a Seller's market in most places these days, and it is just not AS advantageous to a seller to offer that option. That option is MOST advantageous to a Seller who has an inferior product or less reputable intentions (like the one who will sell it easily to people they think might default, and then they can take it back and sell it to the next victim).
