Hi Robert, Not as a REALTOR, we can not tell you if we think a place is safe or not. You will have to go by the information you found, or call the police for the area or drive around the area yourself to see if you like it.... more
Congratulations on relocating to Silver Spring or the surrounding areas! Silver Spring is actually a lot larger then most people think. Silver Spring is made up of seven zipcodes, all zip codes have public transportation but only three of the seven zipcodes have a metro station. The closer you are to a metro the more expensive the housing tends to be so please be mindful of that.
Forest Glen, Wheaton, Downtown Silver Spring and the Woodside Forest are all great neighborhoods but depending on your needs you might like some other area's of Silver Spring. I grew up in Silver Spring so I am very familiar with the neighborhoods.
If you'd like to talk further please feel free to reach out to me!... more
I hope you found the right place to rent and feel at home in Silver Spring. I'm a real estate agent in both DC and MD and grew up in the Silver Spring area. I have always been in love with Woodmoor (located at 4 corners) and think it's a great place to start a family. If you have any questions or need any other advice, feel free to reach out!

I currently have a rental property in Baltimore City that is currently rented out to a section 8 tenant and she was able to pay her security deposit through a low income housing move program. Make sure you understand what you are getting into with renting to section 8 tenants regarding the responsibilities on the landlord and tenant. Finally, understand that you will probably have to have a yearly inspection by HUD section 8 of your property in order to continue to have the tenant staying in your place. So it is very important that you insure tenant keeps the place in good condition in order to avoid not passing your inspection.... more
