Renters do not pay HOA. I agree with the comments below. That's the owner's responsibility. However, make sure you confirm that.

It all depends if the landlord wants to include the HOA fee in the lease.

It varies. Some private renters will include the HOA in the rent price, some won't. This is something you can negotiate during closing. If it includes the HOA great, if not, see if you can negotiate paying half the cost of a portion of the cost and the owner pays the rest. It is negotiated a lot here is south florida and is very easy for me. Talk to your realtor about your options.

Hi, although anything is negotiable, typically in our area the landlord pays the HOA or condo association fees. Donna- the HOA fees are the owners responsibility. However, you
may want to monitor that timely payments are being made.
You should have the owner's reponsibility for this stated in
the terms of your lease! or rental agreement.
In Florida - an HOA has the ability to collect from you directly
if the owner does not pay, also limit your use of common facillies
like pools,gym, automated entry lanes,etc. Big hassle!!
You are smart to be concerned over the HOA and payments
for services you are expecting! Also a good practice is to be up
on HOA Rules and Regs. Best !

Although Don is located in VA, he is CORRECT!
A smart owner will not allow the renter to place the property in peril.
A smart owner will pay for HOA, taxes, insurance and any other fee that could created residual liability.
However, read the rental agreement. Some foiks may not have received the best consultation.
Of course you are awae YOU ARE PAYING ALL OF THESE FEES, plus maintaince budget, depreciation, taxes and profit.
Consult with a professional and get yourself on a trajectory to reap the benefits of ownership, instead of paying for someone else's home.

Generally, no. That's the owner's responsibility. However, make sure you confirm that. (Frankly, the owner should want to handle it himself. Unpaid HOA fees can result in a lien against the property.)
