Why do restaurants, stores and bars close so early in Chinatown?

Well, it used to not be that way. Unfortunately, generations of people have simply moved out to the avenues or burbs so there simply is not enough business and/or foot traffic to justify keeping places open at night. With the influx of young non Asians to the area, perhaps there could be a rebirth of the area. The planned for Chinatown subway station could be the spark that starts that rebirth.
