From Vista, you have easy access to many smaller malls. The Westfield Malls are the bigger ones close by with one in Carlsbad about 10 minutes away, and the other in Escondido about 15 minutes away(depending on where you are in Vista). There is also an outlet mall in Carlsbad. Crime maps can be found at http://www.CrimeMapping.com. The number of incidents will vary quite a bit depending on what part of Vista you consider.

There are many shopping areas close to Vista in addition to the multiple grocery stores and local shopping throughout Vista especially in the revitalized downtown and along the 78 corridor. There is a Costco on Hacienda as well as the Plaza Camino Real in Carlsbad with major stored typical of a large regional shopping center.
I raised my family in Vista and found it to be a very nice community.
So far as crime rate this site has information for you to review http://www.thesandiegopropertyshop.com/Buyer-Information/Cri…
There are also other helpful links at that site as well.
