Montclair has a magnet school system. That means that you don't have to go to your "neighborhood" school. Instead, any child in Montclair can go to any school in town (depending on space and availability). Each school has a magnet "theme" (global studies, environmental studies, Montessori, etc) which is threaded through the essentially same core curriculum. I'd be happy to send you more information about how it works if you'd like.

There are 11 schools in the Montclair Public School System; seven elementary schools, three middle schools and one comprehensive high school. The Montclair Schools have been recognized as one of the top six magnet school districts in the United States. There is a broad based curriculum which is not offered in many of the neighboring Essex County School Systems and children are welcome to pick and choose what course of study best fits their needs.
