Zoe:

As far as commenting on “safe areas” the Federal Housing Act prevents Real Estate firms/agents from commenting on "crime & safety" since this can be construed as "Steering"; however, we can provide informational sources.

http://www.crimereports.com is a popular site for checking for incidents (once you enter an address go to the "Incident Layers" tab to select what type of information is important to you). I believe you will find this quite useful in your decision making process.

Even if an Agent knows an area their opinion of an area may have a higher, or lower, “crime threshold” when compared to a home buyer. Therefore, it’s not necessarily a good idea to rely on another’s personal opinion when it comes to such an important topic.

Hello Zoe,

Burlingame is very safe. Kids walk to school. All parents look out for other kids. It is a wonderful place to live. Very family oriented. A true sense of community. And we are only 17 miles to San Francisco. We have the best of both worlds. If you are looking to move to the Bay Area, I would be happy to speak with you by phone or email so i can share more details.

Hi Zoe,

Safety is somewhat relative. As an 8 year Burlingame resident having relocated from San Francisco I consider Burlingame to be a very safe community when compared to SF & other large cities. That being said crime can & does happen everywhere.

To look up crime data, this is a good site: https://www.crimereports.com/

You can also look up the Police Dept/City websites for communities of interest, frequently they have crime data/reports as well.

Best wishes,
