Hi Julie,

Did you get the answer you were looking for? It's hard to know until you come out and drive around the neighborhoods and see the streets and homes for yourself. West Seattle is a great place, my grandparents retired there from Italy and my two grown daughters both live there!

All of West Seattle is a great place to raise a family. The district known as Fauntleroy is at the south end of West Seattle. Slightly further south would be the Arroyo's (which feature mostly Puget Sound view homes, waterfront and the price to go along with those views) and Arbor Heights (moderately priced homes). Both of these areas, as well as Fauntleroy were primarily developed in the "50's and 60"s. The homes again fit the era of Leave it to Beaver where large family's were the norm. In recent years their has been a real resurgent of households with young children after a period of Empty Nester's finally selling the family home. Fauntleroy encompasses a large area and the full spectrum of price ranges...average homes and homes to to 5 million (Endoline area), waterfront homes near the Fauntleroy/Vashon Ferry, beautiful view properties and homes near the average. Public schools generally around here are good and their are also private school options for those who choose. With the reemergence of young children has developed many extracurricular activities for those children.

Hey Julie,

as the others have said, Fauntleroy is a wonderful place to raise children. You have super quick access to Lincoln Park, Fauntleroy Park, Westwood Village (for all those last minute trips to Target :), not to mention everything else that makes West Seattle so great.

I created a Google map of all of the various neighborhoods in West Seattle which might help you better visualize the Fauntleroy area. You can check out here:

Dear Julie,

As the others have noted, Fauntleroy is a nice place to raise a family. Its central location in West Seattle makes it easy to get to grocery stores, restaurants and Lincoln Park. However, I would certainly caution living right on Fauntleroy Avenue with children. It's a main arterial through West Seattle and cars can drive pretty fast down the street. I've lived in West Seattle for over 15 years and know all of its unique neighborhoods well. My children also attend the public schools in West Seattle and I am pretty knowledgeable about the various options available for families in West Seattle. You may also want to check out the Seattle School district's website to find out where you need to live to be assigned to the various schools, as well as to get more information about each of the schools. (http://www.seattlschools.org) Feel free to email me if you'd like any more information about West Seattle; rebeccacarlson@cbbain.com.

Best of luck in your home search!

Hi Julie,
Fauntleroy is a wonderful area with plenty of other young families. I believe the middle school is Denny. Let me know if there is anything else I can do to assist.
Kindest regards
