Good afternoon! While I can't talk about specific schools with you (for a variety of reasons, but especially because the schools that were great for my daughters and for me might not be the same match for you and your children), Howard County schools are consistently ranked as the best in Maryland. Since Maryland is ranked by Education Weekly as having the best schools in the country, well, you've got the picture! I always suggest to my clients who are relocating here that they visit a couple of schools, and talk to others at their work places or, for that matter, at the grocery store, to get a feel for what makes each school special. Some of my folks have chosen because of a specific academic area such as math, music, social science, or languages, while others have chosen because of extra-curricular strengths such as drama, leadership, and sports. I've been a real estate agent long enough to see two groups of students go from kindergarten through high school, and I've had various parents be happy about their offspring's education in schools throughout the county!

Dear Mom, You can't go wrong with our public schools-- especially in the Ellicott City district you mention! This is based on my personal experience as a 36 year resident of Howard Co and, more importantly, as a former HS teacher here in the county and as a parent of two HCPSS grads who have gone on to continue their education at top ranked colleges. They were well prepared to compete and excel in their studies. Grade reports and detailed statistics on student performance are available on the school system's website.

Let my experience as a realtor, mother, and local educator work for you and your family! Lucie Lynch - GRI

Dear mom,
I am not only a real estate agent who specializes in helping buyers relocating to our area, but I am also a mom of a 12 year old, who attends Howard County schools. We are in the 21043 area. In the 20142 area, looking at elementary, middle and high schools, you have a great selection of schools. As with any area, a zip code spans different school districts so a realtor would be able to let you know based on the homes you like, which schools are in that area. To find out specifically, here is the school locator information: https://inroads2.hcpss.org/SchoolLocator/index.jsp?search=yes
Once you have an address, you can type in the information and all schools (elementary, middle and high school) pop up.
An additional source is the Howard County Public School System: http://www.hcpss.org/schools/
Here you can look up information on individual schools.
I can tell you that there are BLUE RIBBON schools in the area you are looking. I would be very happy to help you find all the information you need, help you navigate the school system, and find you and your family the home of your dreams! I can be reached anytime at 443-226-5046. Thank you

There are a couple links on my website that you might find interesting. One is about Howard County School's international reputation (Centennial is the HS for much of the 21042 area), other links to Howard County schools, and a link to a website called picketreport.com that is fun to use and look up information about any area.
On my web page, (link below) go to the bottom where it says "my external links"
Also Ellicott City was named Mony Magazine's 2010 #2 place to live: http://money.cnn.com/magazines/moneymag/bplive/2010/snapshot…

BTW my kids are 10,13, and 16. Funny. =)
Happy house hunting!

Schools in the 21042 are some of the best in the County. There are some 6 different ES, 5 different MS and 4 different High Schools that service the 21042 zip code. You can obtain school profiles at http://www.kareningalls.com under the school link in the community tab. In addition to top rate academics, each of the schools have a good variety of sports, music arts and a long list of extra activities. There are plenty of parks and community activities too. Let me know if I can help you out further.

Mom,

Realtors can get in alot of trouble talking about schools. I am not a realtor though, I am a lender so I can. That being said I have no idea about schools up in Ellicott City. I reccomend you use the following site.

god afternoon Mom

the howard county schools are rated one of the best in maryland and USA. I would suggest you visit http://www.hcpss.org for more specific information on the schools in your desired 21042 area. There is a section in this website that can identify which school and bus feeds a particular neighborhood. I can supply this informationn as well and complete a comparative analysis for you between your children's current schools and their new ones. Let me know if this service would be beneficial and any other requests you may have. Again the schools are not only rated high but also have many extra activities such as sports, drama, music etc. that your children can appreciate and enjoy. regards, John Hurly, Long and Foster
