Why is this school not investigated? who do you go to when even the school board is not doing anything?

Asked by Michelle, groton mary morrisson Fri Jan 23, 2009

There has been issues all year with the school from not being consistant with enforcing the rules to witness accounts of child neglect and physical and verbal abuses towards students. I have personally witness the principal nearly running from an issue and ignoring it rather than get involved and resolve the problem at hand. The whole demeaner of the school from principal to pto and volunteers need vast improvement, but the frustration of it is that nothing gets done. Where is the accountability for the schools and how they treat our children?

There is a process in place that people with concerns, such as yours, should exercise. It begins with speaking with teachers and administrators about the specific issues. Then asking to be put on the BOE agenda to present your concerns.

Boards of education essentially hire staff and approve policies. They do not manage the schools but appoint administrators that are trained and state licensed to maintain a orderly educational environment.

Teachers are accountable to the administration, the administration is accountable to the BOE, and the BOE is accountable to the State Department of Education.

If you are genuinely concerned and feel strongly that change is necessary.....consider running for the school board and being part of the change process.
