We would like to buy a house but can't decide between Ashland and Franklin. One of our concern is School system and crime/safety.

If you lived in Ashland or Franklin, are you automatically enrolled in that town school?

Hi Loan,

As all my colleagues here have said, both Ashland and Franklin are terrific towns with great schools and low crime rates! I think you will enjoy visiting one of my favorite links http://www.massstats.com (four "s's" total) to do your own research. And, yes, just by residing in either one of these towns (or any town in Massachusetts) your children are automatically entitled to attend school in that town. You may have to contact the school department to register your child(ren) however.

I am curious, however, how you have narrowed your search down to these two towns. They are not in close geographic proximity to each other and they both offer very different town amenities. Again...I'm just curious!

Good luck...you are on the right track by using TRULIA as a resource! I personally love it!

Check out my website http://www.marievirginio.com and click on the link on the bottom left "Schools & Communities". You can specifically research each town and their school systems to help you make an educated decision regarding which town to buy in. Their are also links to research the communities as well.

Good luck and feel free to contact me if I can help answer any more questions.

They are both excellent choices. I went to Ashland High and Ashland was just #965 in the the NewsWeek top 1500 high schools in America. http://www.newsweek.com/id/201160/?s=ashland,+ma&q=2009/rank/1
There are more home choices on the market in Franklin 116 active homes currently in Franklin, with 62 active homes in Ashland. Most importantly when comparing homes in similar quality towns is to find a home in a n.hood that suits your family and you will be happy. If you like I would be happy to help you narrow it down further. feel free to contact me to discuss further.

For demographics in both areas check with the township and school's websites. They should provide all of the information that you are looking for.
