My question is, when is a child come to a point when the school can hold him / her back a grade?

I agree with Terri. I also am a father of 3. I would rather have my child catch up sooner rather than later. I would councel with the school providers to help determine the reason to repeat a grade.

That would be up to the school and the parents. My son was held back between pre-k and kindergarten because of his maturity. If they need to mature I read that it is better to let them stay back when they are young than struggle when they are older and have a greater understanding of the word held back. This is a parent to parent response.

Ask the schools if they have any programs to assist your child to get on track, counseling, tutor, other classes. Good luck to you.
