Is there affordable housing for a family of 4 in the Worthington Kilbourne school disctrict?

Asked by Diane Norris, Ames, IA Thu Nov 13, 2008

We are looking to move to the Columbus area in summer, 2009. We will have a daughter in high school and one in middle school. We are seeking affordable housing in a good school district with racial diversity. Our girls are very interested in sports - especially soccer, track, and gymnastics. What can you tell us about Worthington Kilbourne High School? What is the school enrollment & class size? How does it rank academically? What are the middle school options? Is there help for students who struggle in math & reading? My girls probably want to know school colors & mascot as well. Thanks for any information and any suggestions of places to look for housing & schools. We do want to stay near the Ohio State University campus. Thank you

Hi Ames. I think you'll enjoy any of these Neighborhoods, most specifically Worthington, Grandview and Upper Arlington. Don't discount living in Columbus -maybe Clintonville?- and looking into some good public schools, they do exist.
Of course affordable is relative and probably has a lot to do with where your family is moving from and what your perspective is. Probably never before has there been the sheer amount of homes available in these areas and more than you think may be "affordable".
Here is a link to all the homes in Upper Arlington and Worthington currently on the market under $300,000. I'm sure your family can find something to call home in there somewhere.…

PS-I think your girls will find the mascot names relatively blah, mostly your typical animal mascots..

All my children attended Worthington Schools and I was a resident of the Worthington area for 25 years. I was also a member of the Worthington School Board for many years. Please contact me and I would be happy to answer any question you may have about the area or school system.

Dear Diane, it looks like you've been provided with lots of school links! Really, this is the best way to "get acquainted" with the school. Also, most schools welcome a "visit" from folks that are relocating into the area.

Other school links you may want to review may include: Thomas Worthington, any of the Dublin Schools, Hilliard, Upper Arlington and Grandview. All would put you in the northwest quandrant and in reasonable proximity to OSU.

What is reasonable? Do you want to rent or buy? How many bedrooms and baths? With this information, I can send you a few homes that fit your critieria so you can better compare.

One more thought, if you go to, you can get community and school information through our web site. It might save you a little time.

Best of luck!

It really depends on your budget. You can find a nice homes in the entry level price point in the area.
Worthington is a little more expensive (price per sq. foot) than some other areas around Columbus. The community is wonderful. Well rated schools, nice entertainment, uptown area with shops within walking distance and the area is close to highways.

To answer questions about the mascot/school colors-Kilbourne are the Wolves and their colors are blue and white.

I encourage you to research Worthington Kilbourne High School using the Ohio Dept. of Educations grade card reports. Follow this link:… Special needs and tutoring

Other areas to consider that are close to OSU are Westerville, Upper Arlington, Grandview Heights, Hilliard and Dublin. It really depends on the type of home you are searching for and your price point to narrow where you should be looking for homes.
